How about favourite singles then?

5 of mine to start with
Pop Group - She is beyond Good And Evil/3:38
Joy Division- She's lost control / Atmosphere
Einsturzende Neubauten - Yu Gung/Seele Brennt/Sand
Suicide- Cheree/I remember
Subway Sect- Nobody's Scared/Dontsplitit

But then there's The Rezillos Can't stand my baby/I wanna be your man
Throbbing Gristle- United/Zyklon B Zombie and more...

Probably says more about when I was actually buying singles than anything else

Of the ones that charted:

Anarchy In the UK
In the City
No More Heroes
Blue Monday
Baggy Trousers

If I needed to list the band names then they'd not be the iconic singles they were

Blur -Chemical world
Josh Wink - higher states of consciousness
Pulp - Do you remember the first time?

Basically because they were a significant part of the soundtrack to my wonderful time at university.

How about favourite singles then ?

I'm struggling with that.. Why not 3 favourite albums & all time fave song?

Mine:-

Bob Dylan: Highway 61 revisited.

Bob Dylan: Blood on the tracks.

Neil Young: After the Goldrush.

All time favourite song: Bob Dylan: Desolation row.

Sorry !

Alf

Lola - The Kinks
Ride a White Swan - T Rex
The Gene Genie - David Bowie
Schools Out - Alice Cooper
Virginia Plain - Roxy Music
Silver Machine - Hawkwind

Easy...

Orange Juice - Falling & Laughing
Orange Juice - Blue Boy
Josef K - Radio Drill Time
Josef K - It's Kinda Funny
Aztec Camera - Just Like Gold

Cheers

The Dr Who theme music - BBC Radiophonic Workshop [actually Delia Derbyshire]. One of the first singles I bought with my own money [Decca 5/6d]. Extraordinary then and now - you just have to get past the familiarity to wonder what the woman was on.... [probably gin].

Little Woman / Just For You [Island] - Dave Mason. I bought this on a day trip to London from One Stop in South Molton Street - it was pasted up to the window. First UK stereo single, I think - and the geek in me couldn't get over it.

King of The Rumbling Spires [Regal Zonophone] - Tyrannosaurus Rex. A very hot summer, and they landed on the moon as well, although at the time Marc going electric was more significant to me.

And Borrrrrrn To Be Alive goes without saying. I quite liked Compare Me With The Rest by Ronny as well - same period, I think

CD singles just aren't the same, are they?

Here are some of mine, none of them charted so band names are needed. All on 7" only (I think).

Khaya – Summer/Winter Song
The Serpents – No Mask, No Cloak... Dim Gobaith
Avrocar – Screen
Clinic – I.P.C Subeditors Dictate Our Youth
FortDax – Like Cream Inside Your Spine
Life Without Buildings – The Leanover

Some More

Lazy Sunday - Small Faces
Alright Now - Free
When I'm Dead and Gone - McGuiness Flint
McArthur Park - Richard Harris
Something in the Air - Thunderclap Newman
HiHo Silver Lining- Jeff Beck

And Some More

Is Vic There - Dept S
He's Frank - Monochrome Set
30 Seconds over Tokyo - Pere Ubu
Beach Boys - God Only Knows
The Monkees - Last Train to Clarkesville

Identity - X-Ray Spex
Pretty Vacant - Sex Pistols
She Sell Sanctuary - The Cult
Whole Lotta Rosie - AC/DC
Will You - Hazel O'Connor

Only because every one of these tracks has been played on my record player over the last few days, and got at least one repaet each. Next week my list could be very different.

Public Image - PIL
Stand - Sly and The Family Stone
Be Stiff - Devo
Atmosphere - Joy Division
You Made Me Realise - My Bloody Valentine
Lost In Music - Sister Sledge
Red Rat - Shelly Ann
the la's - there she goes

and a lot more I'd have to remember

YEAH!!
I particularly like the 'noise solo'. Who did it first? MBV, Sonic Youth (Silver Rocket) or The Telescopes (There is no floor... I think that was the one)?

But possibly even better is Lovlee Sweet Darlene.

I think Sonic Youth was earlier - but MBV made it sound like a single, like pop music - their best moment.

Except for Lovlee Sweet Darlene...

Shall we meet up at Birmingham New Street over this?

Blast! - cant remember that one. I have fond memories of seeing them at Glastonbury and being stunned at what they could do live.

It was the opening track of an ep called "The New Record By..." released in 1986 on Kaleidoscope Sound. Lord knows how much it would fetch these days, but a re-release is long overdue.

Wish I'd seen them live...
