SO I was skipping about the Virgin Megastore in Belfast this morning and spotted a couple of Tangerine Dream discs in the cheapie bin. I already have them but I thought these were the Hi def ones I'd heard folks talkng about. Indeed it even says High Definition remastered on them.

So nto the Minimax they went and yes they sound better than the old cd's I had but no hi def light on the front of the cdp.

Have I been had?

Does the packaging actually have the copyrighted HDCD logo in a little oblong box on it?

I've read that material mastered on HDCD capable equipment is sometimes flagged as HDCD, even when it contains no HDCD information.

Incidentally, don't buy the Japanese K2HD editions of Creedence Clearwater Revival. They're mastered far too loud and weirdly EQ'd. Funnily enough I have the 1987-ish original CD issue of Cosmo's Factory, and it sounds great. The K2HD edition is 10dB louder. Why? *tsk*
