The caps used to be a very great deal lower but a few years ago they got greedy, since when Ebay became the place to go for crappy £1 things and overpriced anything else. The whole used high value side of it was very substantially damaged and the turnover of used Hi Fi gear slowed enormously. The people selling new higher value stuff found that they were undercut by other web based sales platforms and many pulled out.
Cars seem to have much lower FV fees relatively, otherwise that market would have shut down since they have very clear competition from Autotrader.
I have certainly used Ebay a lot less for selling and made relatively fewer changes to my system in recent years because of the fees.
The increased cost and difficulty of moving things on probably explains why I've accumulated so much unused gear in the first place.
