Guy Clark, a true song writing legend died earlier today in Nashville aged 74 after a long battle with ill health.

I was fortunate enough to work closely with Guy for several years and he was an absolute legend as a man, a writer and friend.

Check out his Old Number 1 album if you are unfamiliar with him.

“The patron saint of an entire generation of bohemian pickers, Guy Clark has become an emblem of artistic integrity, quiet dignity and simple truth,” wrote Robert K. Oermann in the 1995 liner notes to Clark’s “Craftsman” collection. That sums him up for me. RIP Guy.

Sad news but what a great songwriter. Old no.1 has been a favourite record of mine for 40+ years. It still sounds fabulous. There aren't many songs better than Instant Coffee Blues

RIP Guy. This is the only album of his I own, the cover seems even more poignant now

Really said to learn this. My favourite lyric:

"Well, he's one of those who knows that life is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold your breath and always trust your cape"

Got LA freeway on now :(

Playing LA Freeway now, introduced to Guy many years ago with "Old Friends" he opened up the whole Texan musical landscape for me and have loved their music ever since.
He has a lot of fans here in NZ.
Errol :(
