Great British Railways

Should this not be Great Britain’s Railways or in the same way as I’m Irish are all you UK mainland natives now “Great British” rather than just British?

just reading a wonderful Giles cartoon book from 1971 all about the great BR on strike with various cartoons , seems nothing changes !!

I hate the word "Great" being used in any other context than the name of the largest of the British isles. I'm assuming in this context the "Great" implies something else. Can't think what!

I cannot think what is wrong with good old British Railways.
