Graphics software for...

...icons, infographics, slides etc. for presentations and social media.

It seems to have fallen upon me to help out one of the big bairns with the creation of the aforementioned. ( He's seen the sales presentations I used to do. )

I've been using Word/Publisher2016 and PhotoscapeX thus far, with decent results but it's a little long winded to get good results. As far as PowerPoint is concerned, I seem to get better results with the former, probably because of far greater familiarity developed in the interim years.

I was looking at things like Adobe Illustrator but have a pet hate for subscription software.

What's good out there, freeware or single purchase, that will give slick results more quickly and to a higher standard?
 
I use illustrator but the best free alternative I’ve seen is Inkscape with gimp the alternative for photoshop. Hope that helps.

Noooooooo, I've only made a couple of simple logos with an online service and then tweaked in PhotoscapeX...
 
I use Inkscape to draw sketch maps for my walking website. Bit of a learning curve, but does all I need.
