Goodmans Axiom 201

As an experiment, and on recommendations, I tried the 201s 'Open Backed' and they certainly do work very well in that configuration.
I have had quite a few Open Baffle speakers before and these were all I was expecting, and not a massive reduction in bass. The Mid-range is a fair more open and the imaging a bit better too. This may well be the configuration for Scalford I think.

Whilst pre-1960 Goodmans drivers, including the the little Axiette, generally were excellent, the cabinets in which they were supplied were not usually to the same standard - but this could be said of just about any manufacturer's woodwork of that era (although HMV always were a beautifully made exception). The best Axiom I remember hearing was in a Tannoy Canterbury cabinet and it was delightful, perhaps because this happened to be the best cabinet design for the Tannoy 12" model too. :)

If you have space/cabinetmaking facilities, this arrangement might be worth considering.
