Getting prints done

johnfromnorwich

even my wife noticed the dif..
I've got a few negatives from which I'd like to have decent quality prints made. Good enough to frame and stable enough not to go green in sunlight! I'd guess 10 x 8" ish. I'd hoped to be able to print them myself but darkroom access is mired in bureaucracy. Any recommendations for commercial printers? Ideally from negatives or from high-res scanned file (i.e. appropriately cropped and with all the dings fixed!) - not sure which but a couple will be colour (from the 'caffol' negs). In principle 'from negs' sounds better but without any control, I'm guessing files may be preferable.

This guy does professional quality scanning.

Don't know about printing, but I see a lot of Landscape people selling work get a high-res scan done, colour match etc to the transparency, and then get a Cibachrome print done (it's called Ilfachrome these days, but I'm old) which I believe is done straight from a file these days. Obviously you need to calibrate your monitor to the printer etc.
