G.E.C. tweeters - forerunners to the Celestion HF1300

A pair of these turned up in some old Leak sandwich speakers from somebody's garage. Obviously replacements for the original Leak units. There is very little info to be found on them, other than they were the predecessors to the Celestion HF1300 ( designed by Hugh Britten?).
Pics can be found here:-

Anybody know if they are collectible/useful/valuable/scrap?

Thanks for any info.

Hmmm, 2 weeks and no replies...I guess these were around before most people on here were even born!
Anybody know of any other sites/forums where I might get some information? I am sure they must be of interest to somebody out there...

I think they may have been used with the GEC metal cone speaker. I think there was a Celestion coaxial unit that had a tweeter similar to yours.

Looks like Alnico magnets.

Just looking through some old photos and the Celestion CX1512 has a tweeter that from the front looks a bit like yours, but with small ceramic magnet, coaxially mounted.

Also the GEC metal cone speaker coaxially mounted tweeter looks similar, but I guess that it also has a smaller magnet too.

Thanks for the input, Radfordman.
I've done a bit more googling, and found some of the pics of the units you have mentioned. The GEC ones I have here are similar, but have a much larger magnet. I thought they might have been a precursor to the HF1300 after reading the info here :-

Scroll down about two thirds to find the info on the HF1300.

According to the G.E.C. literature I have, they are (and I quote)" GEC BCS1853 HI-FLUX PRESENCE UNIT. An efficient high note radiator." I have some GEC 8 inch units that I use with BCS 1852Presence units.
Hope that helps.

Thats interesting, thanks. Would your units be anything like the ones shown here?;- (2nd thread down)

Still not sure what to do with these. Is there an "audio museum" anywhere in the UK who might find them interesting, do you think?

Same as mine. I acquired mine some years ago installed in G.E.C. Octagonal Periphonic cabinets. I was very impressed, and as the cabinets were somewhat "distressed" I disposed of them fully intending to build new ones....never did. You have re-kindled my interest and I am toying with the idea of using them in open baffles.?????

I guess that like the Celestion HF1300, the GEC tweeters would really need a super tweeter above them. The usual candidates are the Coles 4001G, Celestion HF2000 or KEF T27, all of these are getting expensive and rare.

I have used other tweeters above the HF1300 with good success. The little cheap plastic Audax ones seem to do the job.

A nice 8" or so bass/ mid, your tweeters and the cheap Audax would make a nice speaker.
