Frans Brüggen, one of the great pioneers of playing baroque music on "period instruments" died this week at the age of 79. As a soloist he did much to promote the recorder but was also an accomplished flautist. He was probably best known these days as a conductor, leading the Orchestra of the 18th Century (which stretched to early 19th C classical music). Another great musician gone.
