I've built a preamp capable of using a variety of different octal base valves. No phono stage, just 3 RCA inputs and one pair of outputs with volume control.
This was built to try out several good octal valves with different characteristics, and is perfect for tube rollers. Tubes that can be used include:
6J5
6P5
6V6 in triode
6G6G in triode
6F6G in triode
6K6G in triode
I've been using 6G6G in it, and I really like the sound with it - detailed, smooth and dynamic. I used this in my system for a while and was very happy with it. These will be the valves supplied - a new pair. It's low gain valve, gain around 8. Output impedance is around 4.7K, so will work well with amps with an input impedance of 47K or higher.
Premium parts include teflon coupling caps, wirewound anode resistors, Holco cathode resistors, shunt volume control with NOS carbon film Panclimatic resistors, Kemet DC Link PSU and cathode bypass caps. Case is black 2U size, 460 x 250 x 85mm.
Can be auditioned in Kensington or sent for the cost of shipping. Photos on request.
