Fan running caps

We have a few 3 speed ceiling fans that all need their running caps replaced from time to time. One fan in particular however, seems to kill it's cap quite quickly. First symptom is loss of the fastest speed.
The caps in question are 2.5uf two terminal ( captive lead style ).
Is there any kind of fault in the fan that could cause this? I should also add that the fans, although of good quality, are approximately 10 years old.

All I can think is you have a start cap rather than a run cap that is continually rated.

A logical thought. However, the fans are all the same make and model using exactly the same cap.
Just one fan gobbles them up...I'm thinking along the lines of the motor not being up to full spec. and putting extra strain on the cap?

You could check the resistance of the windings to see if the problem one has one lower than the rest.
