Etta James RIP

I'm a cynical old coot but this news moved me to tears, tremendous vocal talent, such a shame. RIP Etta. Legend.

'She is the voice you hear in your head when you list female blues vocalist" - as rascal Charles Shar Murray spoke on C4 re Etta.

Hi,

Very sad news. What a great singer.

I'll add more later.

If there is a greatest hits go for that, but its hard to beat "At Last" the album.

She really should have performed at Obama's inauguration, but some lesser talent called Beyonce sung Etta's song At Last to the new president.

Hi,

Try The Best of Etta James. It's cheap and a good pointer.

Huge loss.

I can't think of anything she sang badly, so pretty much any compilation of decent quality ought to be OK.

I have a tape somewhere called 'Etta James. Her Greatest Sides' (Sounds a bit American does that). It has At last, Stop The Wedding, Tell Mama etc.

I must get a few CDs. Amazon should come up with the goods, but prices will likely be up a bit at present.

This looks great value as a starter: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00004U8S9/?tag=pinkfishmedia-21

I really recommend this "Seven Year Itch". It's with the Memphis horns, and I think Steve Cropper may have been on there as well. Not a duff song on it.

Sad, indeed...
