Bigger house? I have a friend who collets vintage bicycles. He has them all the way up the main staircase , several rooms it is difficult, if not impossible, to get into as there are so many . It may come as no surprise that he is single. No, but there may be a limit on how many pairs he can accommodate.
Another of my friends has Grandfather clocks, 36 of them. Not sure what that tells us about ourselves in that we all appear to have weird mates.Similarly, a friend of mine collected guitars. At one point he had 120 stuffed throughout his house. When he retired and downsized, he donated them all to Aeolian Hall.
Its only a suggestion but should we get out more often and try to socialise with the rest of the population. Oh no! I hear you cry, they are all weird out there and all they do is go to work and come home and watch TV. If I stay in and look on Ebay I might get find some more planes, spanners ,Amps, etc.200 chisels and gouges 100 planes etc, 27 planes in the living room alone, wood stashed everywhere.
Quite a few cameras as well.

I can stop at any time...but not just yet!
Ear-height at intersection between woofer and tweeter is how I designed the E-VII.Technical question to James and anyone with an insight. The speaker has the units mounted at 15 degrees from vertical. Tweeter at the top. What height do I make the stands? The SBL's I have are similar in front panel terms. The tweeter is 840mm from the floor. Do I use this measurement to make the stands?
This is what I had assumed but better to check before cutting to size.Ear-height at intersection between woofer and tweeter is how I designed the E-VII.
As they say .............There is only one way to see the answer, Just do it. I will give it a go and if I do not like the results then I have another pair of fronts to try again. If it does not pan out then I can revert to the original design and cover them in leather as James did on his version. I am not trying to be a smart arse by doing this, I just like to set myself an almost impossible goal and then see how much I miss it by!That looks great!
The wavy ply laminations would bug the hell out of me though. Personally, I would just paint the baffle as I think you'll see the deviations in flatness if you try to sand the surfaces to get the lines to straighten, especially across that top surface.
Coming from you, I will take that as a serious compliment. That looks bloody good.
If you're intending to cover with leather, the driver rebates will need to be made 1-1.5mm wider (but not deeper) to accommodate the under-tuck. The other purpose of leather is to provide a near airtight seal for the drivers. If it does not pan out then I can revert to the original design and cover them in leather as James did on his version.
Having spent an hour on them today with a palm sander and hand sanding its looking increasingly like its organic art! Much better but not perfect. Nor do I think it ever will get to that point. I would need a far steeper angle on the sides to make it really work as a crisp geometric entity. What I am finding is with such a shallow angle the veneers glue lines are starting to bleed into the veneer top and bottom and so the water gets muddied.I can look at it two ways:
- It's geometry, and as such the lines need to be perfect.
- It's organic art, so the variations add character and intrigue.
If your wife actually wants to be in the sweet spot and/or on-axis, then consider yourself lucky. So I have a bit of an issue. I have knocked up the cabinets and put one of them in the lounge. I placed it on a couple of Ergo 1X cabinets to gauge the correct height for the stands and see what they would look like.
The issue is this. From where I sit the height is not an issue. HOWEVER from where my wife sits there might possibly be a discussion to be had. Even I recognise this is one which I am going to lose!
