Distribution amp advice sought

Has anyone built a good sounding DA for, say, turning a tape output signal into several for (cheap) multi-room use? Can this be done with something battery powered?

Any advice, diagrams welcome.

Many thanks,

Nic.

For multiroom distribution you are best off sending balanced audio. I am currently working on a design for some new Balanced send and recieve boards that are just for this purpose (I have run out of the old ones)

You can distribute balanced audio down FTP CAT5 cable which is normally used for computer networking and costs less than 40p per metre.

In an experiment using the old boards (the new ones will be better) it was found that fitting the boards directly inside a pre and power amp, we could achieve a better sound from running a balanced signal down 50 metres of CAT5 between pre and power, than using the original unbalanced inputs and ouputs from pre to power with a 0.7 metre long £120 interconnect cable from a certain well known manufacturer!
