Digital recording

DAT = "Dies After Twoyears"

Assuming you want a seperate recorder and mics, then Zoom makes good stuff - I have the 8 channel unit, and it is robust and works well

At the high end, Sound Devices is very good -- love my 788T. But they are hugely expensive modern answers to Nagra.

Excellent stuff, thanks for all the advice.
Should have said I'm a tight ba57ard (my epitaph should say: 'E coulda bin a Yarkshireman) so have been looking at S/H Olympus DM450 and above. Seems the DM650 / DM670 are really good spec and can be had for about £40 or so from ebay. Really don't want to spend a lot anyway as it is just something to play with rather than anything too serious. (Wife would have my 8a115)
