Decca Sc4e hum in 301

innuendo

Hi guys, have a decca on a 301 with Ultracraft arm,
Changed phono stage and marginal background hum has now a become a bit annoying.
Realise this was always a bit of a thing with the Sc4e on the Garrard but have a Decca blue on another TT and wondered if this might be worth a swap ( not too easy) if less prone to the dreaded hum...?

Have you got a clear plastic or metal switch cover under the platter of your 301? If the former try swapping it for the metal type as I believe that can be a source of hum with some 301s.

The clear plastic type can be seen on my old 301 here.

Or you could just send the SC4E to me... this is my current dream cartridge!
All Deccas are prone to picking up mains hum. I had to re-arrange my rack as my Decca London Gold was picking up hum from one of my PSUs, when arm was at rest (there is no actual arm rest on my TT) - though fine when actually playing.

Yeah hum gets worse as nears TT centre.
Was not too bad with old phono, stage( Croft)
But new one ( Doug Dunlop)needs more gain so hum more obvious.
