Danny Kirwan RIP

Fleetwood Mac made one album with Danny as leader, Bare Trees, and it's an absolute corker.

Also one of my favourite PG era Fleetwood Mac tracks is a Danny Kirwan number, Only You, which never made it on to a studio release.

By many accounts he could be a very difficult person, nevertheless, RIP.

That's a real shame. The cause of Danny's death hasn't been announced. He was fired from Fleetwood Mac for being an alcoholic and unstable, according to The Independent, and ended up sleeping rough. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-...dead-fleetwood-mac-guitarist-68-a8391861.html

"During the eighties and nineties, he endured a period of homelessness in London and struggled with mental health issues.

"Speaking to The Independent in 1993 in a rare interview after Fleetwood asked the Missing Person Bureau to seek out his former guitarist, he said: ”I’ve been through a bit of a rough patch but I'm not too bad.

“I get by and I suppose I am homeless, but then I've never really had a home since our early days on tour. I couldn't handle it all mentally and I had to get out. I can't settle."

Danny didn't turn up when he was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. This Observer article from 2015 says there aren't even photographs of Danny from the '90s onwards. http://observer.com/2015/11/for-you...wan-the-sad-beautiful-ghost-of-fleetwood-mac/

Ironically enough Bill Wilson and Dr Robert Smith started Alcoholics Anonymous 83 years ago today.

RIP Danny Kirwan.

I had no idea about Danny's unstable life; very sad to hear of his passing. I always enjoyed his work in the original Fleetwood Mac; R.I.P. Danny.
