Damping wall behind Quad ESL-63 (and later)

What is the opinion on damping the wall behind ESL-63 if distance is shorter than 1 m from back wall?

Sound on Sound always used to recommend a cheap duvet suspended behind the speakers as a rough and ready measure.

Not sure which tog rating gives the better SQ

I put two couch pillows (15 cm thick and quite stiff) approx the size of the 988s and put them at the wall behind the speakers. Removed them and got the impression the bass increased without the pillows.

I stumbled on some GIK (I think) diffusers on eBay dirt cheap - chf 25 for 12 of them. I stacked them up behind one of my 63s (about 70-75cm from rear wall) and didn’t like what they did...so flogged them immediately on a more popular CH auction site - i put a chf 200 buy it now price on them, and they sold same day to someone building a home studio. Nice profitable experiment
