Coronavirus - the new strain XXIV

Has anyone signed up for the Panoramic or Principle studies from Oxford while they had Covid? The latter interestingly is looking at Ivermectin vs an antiviral vs nothing.

UK data are no longer provided after NI stops reporting. So

14 592 cases and 85 deaths reported today and 573, 450 and 387 admissions reported over the weekend to 21/5. There are currently 5 000 patients in hospital, 1/4 of the peak.

Bombshell photos show Boris Johnson raising glass at No10 party he denied happened
Boris Johnson was asked if there was a party in No10 on 13 November 2020 and replied 'no'. Yet photos now show him raising a glass of fizz at a leaving do on that date - leading to claims he lied to Parliament

There's something so quaint about the widespread idea that the Met can't possibly have seen these photos and let him off. In corrupt countries, when the police investigate the powerful, they get let off. That's how it works.

I’m reading a lot of highly disturbing stuff just at random over on Twitter from within the sort of leftist/civil-rights activist and arts areas I follow of often young and previously healthy folk absolutely wiped-out by long covid. An example here. She’s just 28. Far from an isolated case too, I’m seeing folk showing signs of lasting damage all over the place and it seems to manifest both physically and also a general lethargy/brain-fog (which I may have myself to some degree). It is scary stuff and we are being conditioned to ignore the risks, to believe it is over and to move on. Long covid really needs placing under the spotlight as it clearly effects huge, huge numbers of people.

Attendance focus shows why good ventilation in schools still matters
While ventilation was the big topic in the pandemic to reduce infection risks, academics say that if the government want to focus on boosting attendance to further minimise disruption to education, it's a topic that should be on the agenda again

Pretty much as we have been saying on here for at least a year now.

But the report does have some additional data to support the recommended approaches:

For example, a study carried out in the USA looked at reported data from 169 primary schools and kindergartens on infection rates and actions taken to reduce transmission.

Those schools that had made ventilation improvements (eg, opening windows and doors more frequently or using fans) had a 35 per cent lower incidence of infection, while those that had also added in air cleaning devices showed a 48 per cent reduction.

Vomiting and partying until 4am: Sue Gray delivers damning verdict on Boris Johnson’s No 10

Security logs also reveal spilled wine over walls and drunken staff told to leave by back entrance

In what appears to be an indictment of the prime minister, as well as senior civil servants, she says “the senior leadership at the centre, both political and official, must bear responsibility for this culture”.

[Speaking of quaint - these people would like you to believe that they're actually 'running the country']

"Hard to imagine even 10 years ago a scandal like this, a PM fined by police and then brutally admonished in a report like that one and not a single cabinet resignation, just a few tweets and we’re urged to all move on Our politics has plumbed new depths and it’s really bleak"

Anyone remember the Nolan Principles, the basis of the ethical standards expected of public office holders.

I sent the Army equivalent (Courage, Discipline, Respect For Others, Integrity, Loyalty, Selfless Commitment) to my (ex-army officer) MP, asking if he thought The Johnson possessed even one of the required virtues.
No reply - even after a reminder email.

Safety regulator refused to investigate some NHS staff Covid deaths
Health and Safety Executive did not look into at least 89 incidents in England, including 10 deaths

"The stance taken by the HSE, which oversees workplace health and safety and can bring prosecutions, is disclosed in freedom of information requests by the Pharmaceutical Journal. It has prompted concern that the regulator is too strict in its definition of workplace harm."
