Download an app called No Sleep.
Check “Do not fall asleep when lid is closed” and you can freely shut a portable Mac without the machine sleeping, even without a keyboard or display attached.

An aside, don't know if you can fit them in, but I just bought these for my MacBook to enhance the sound, can't remember if you use the tv for sound output (I never do personally) or the MacBook, they are superb value, USB driven, no mains, strongly recommended:
