Coltrane on (new) vinyl?

johnfromnorwich

even my wife noticed the dif..
Does anyone know what the master sources are for the currently available Atlantic and Impulse releases? I'm after Olé and Africa/Brass in particular and probably Giant Steps (a bit early for my tastes but still a glaring omission). There seems to be a fancy pressing of the latter available and all the Impulse recordings are in print but if they are just CDs with surface noise I'll just get the CDs.

I can't comment on the other two but I have the double 45rpm of 'Giant Steps', remastered from the original analogue tapes by Bernie Grundman, and it is excellent in my opinion: quiet and flat pressing, with a lovely sound. Much prefer it to the version in the 'Heavyweight Champion' vinyl box (other than the short side length), itself good but not great in comparison. The version I'm referring to is the same as the one is this review:
