Classic Ford parts?

linnfomaniac83

I bet you can’t wheelie a unicycle!
This morning, some utter scumbag pulled out on my young cousin and smashed up his beloved MK3 escort, she gave false details before rushing off, exclaiming that she had to get her kids to school. Turns out the vehicle (a 68 plate Mercedes) had no insurance.

I’m absolutely gutted for him, he paid almost £4000 to insure his car already (he’s 17 and passed his test a few weeks ago). I’m just investigating the possibility of rebuilding it for him. It is going to need a bonnet, slam panel, radiator and a front bumper... these parts are scarce to say the least, nothing on eBay. Does anyone know of a supplier of classic Ford body parts? Or is it just going to be uneconomical to repair?

My friend is selling a tidy, low mileage Vauxhall Corsa which I could get for £300, but it’s not the same.:(

Superb, I’m really not in the know with Fords (I’m a VW enthusiast), but it’s a lovely old car (or was). I’m going to suggest that anyone in the family that can contribute, puts the money together to put it back together and then I’ll appeal to my mate to paint it for an affordable price. Thankfully the wings, headlamps and chassis legs look to be okay, so it should be a case of unbolting stuff, and bolting on/aligning the new bits.

I'm a long long time out of the Ford world, but it might be worth signing up to a couple of the forums, explain the situation and see if anybody has anything. Some of the stuff people have in garages/sheds/lockups beggars belief. I'd start with Passionford and Turbosport.

Cheers, will do!

This is the damage, should be repairable

That's a Mk4, shouldn't be too hard to get the bits. Slam panel will be welded though not bolted.
Told you I’m not a for expert :D, I know plenty of people that could cut the damaged one out and weld the new one in. Surely then it’s just a case of replacing the rad (not leaking but a bit bent), bumper and bonnet.

I do hope that drive-away and reg is reported to the Police. Failing to stop - which effectively had been done - is a serious offence they'll pursue.

GL with the search for a simple fix :)

You’d think that wouldn’t you, he reported it to West Midlands police and they told him “report it to your insurance and they’ll sort it”, they haven’t even given a crime number... yet. I’ve told him to put a complaint in and push them to persue it, he’s the victim of a very spiteful crime. She needs to have her car siezed and the appropriate fines and points for no insurance, as well as the penalties for failing to stop.

She even had his phone off him to put her (false) number in and whilst she had it, deleted the photos he’d taken of her car and reg plate... luckily he managed to recover them, but I can’t believe somebody would be so devious.

I think it may be a time consuming fix, finding parts and then getting them all fitted on spare time... but hopefully simple.

He might be well to get the Corsa to tide himself over until his car is fixed.

Thanks for that. He’s really worried about getting his insurance loaded and having his car written off. If we can try and alleviate some of that worry, it’d be a good thing.

My brother was involved in a similar incident whereas the car that hit him was not insured. He claimed through the MIB, was succesful & the insurers did not load his insurance whatsoever as he was the victim as is your cousin. Glad he has the photos of the Mercedes now again, they will soon trace her.

Glad your brother got sorted, I think the MIB is the right way to go. He will need a crime number though so he needs to push the police. He shouldn’t be out of pocket for this.

£4000 insurance! o_O

good luck to him getting it fixed.
Cheers. He’s 17 years old but it’s still utterly insane, I paid £850 on a four year old car, and then £550 for the second year, albeit 18/19 years ago. It’s so hard for young drivers these days, but that’s the price. It’ll come down each year as he builds his NCB and gains experience. He lives with his parents and pretty much works to pay for his car.
