By their very raison d'etre all xmas songs are intrinsically naff but the few I can kinda enjoy are

1. The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl - Fairytale of New York

2. Jethro Tull - Ring out Solstice Bells.

3. The Waitresses - Xmas Wrapping.

4. Bob Dylan - Must be santa.

5. John Lennon and Yoko Ono - Happy xmas (War is over)

These days I'd probably select part of the Christmas Oratorio by JS Bach.

The Tom Waits, Lennon/Ono, Pogues and Kirsty McCall songs are great, but looking to the future are Slade. Merry Christmas Everybody is annoying, incredibly catchy and has phased drum sections for all those bored or on drugs.

I rate 'Father Christmas' by The Kinks as being up there with my favorite carols of the season. ;-)

'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)' by Darlene Love is the best Christmas song ever. I'd be quite happy never to hear Slade, Wizzard, Macca or the sodding Pogues' Christmas songs ever again.

And at the other end of the Christmas spectrum is this blast from Christmas past (perhaps the first single I ever bought - I was very young).
