Car mistakes?

Not so much a mistake, but bad timing I suppose. If I had waited two years, I could have bought a BMW M2 for the same money as the 335i Touring I bought in 2013. I still love my 335i, but would swap it for an M2 in a heartbeat if I had the chance to go back in time.

Aforementioned video game on wheels had another go today. First it flashed up a message about ‘privacy missing’, then a yellow exclamation mark, a symbol of a telephone and the letters SOS. Then the control console touchscreen locked out. ‘Contact workshop!’ another message urged. So I did. ‘It’s a software issue’ I was told. ‘Mostly the upgrades are done in the background, but the SOS system (she gesticulated somewhere up onto the roof, while I wondered what the hell the SOS system was, and why I needed one) sometimes needs to be done manually. Can you book it in? You won’t be able to use the satnav, radio or (reeled off a list of more things I don’t understand) until you do, unfortunately.’ I drove off, laughing merrily at the chucklesome ways of modern cars. Several stops and a couple of hours later, I turned - sorry, pressed the ignition on again. Everything back to normal. So presumably the software had finished downloading and updating. Why the **** didn’t it say that’s what it was doing rather than flashing up ‘SOS’?

At some point it also told me ‘your account will be unlocked once you have entered your S-PIN online’. I wasn’t aware I had an account to unlock, much less an S-PIN. Online, eh? Did you have any specific site in mind, or do I have to guess where?

No wonder there's a chip shortage with cars having to process all that shit :)

:)

Glad to have been of service c42. You at least have the excuse of having considered it looking through the eyes of a 19 yearly numpty, as opposed to a should-have-had-more-sense 41 year old one.

I didn't actually go into the finer detail btw about the two of the six years during the ownership experience when it sat in a local 'Porsche specialist' to get the heat-exchangers replaced, and how after about 24 months / 60 phonecalls and broken promises later, I picked it up off him, and then suffered two stripped cylinder stud threads when I took it for a proper spin the following morning and revved it out for the first time to see how it was going. Honestly. Ah the memories :)

Yes, the Orange Bstd Pig Experience certainly cured me of any and all interest in 'Classics' ever after. (Well on the 4 wheel front at least..)

It's why a load of air cooled 911's sit in garages with owners too scared to drive them. Not my idea of car ownership

Keeps them in good shape until the next recession when I can pick one up with good old cash.

Exactly!!
Theres a few in our driving crew and you really need to be handy at working with cars (or have decent disposable income) to do solid miles in one IMO...the whole air cooled servicing sector has raised their prices in line with the cars meteoric rise in values.
