Can anybody advise how to measure the specs of an SUT transformer?

Nope, I am having difficulty with this...I feel inexperienced with electronics... more of a mechanical guy, I guess, although I'm perfectly competent at soldering etc.....But all I'm getting at the moment is hum...despite having used a number of combinations of the leads. Not successful. Any suggestions please? :-(
