Bypass the Pre Amp and straight into the Power ?

Thinking of a 2 channel home theatre using hifi component remnants.

So if I take the audio out from the TV and plugged the leads into a power amp, will that work properly ?

Volume control will be on the TV and input switching is also on the TV.

Will this work or should I just get an integrated amp ?

Thanks ...

Some TV's have fixed outputs from a pair of phonos, and you'd be better of using an integrated with these.

You could use a power amp from the headphone out of your telly if it has one.

But I've tried this before for a friend and the headphone out was appalling. Feeble control and sounded dire.

Found the following which might be a better solution:

Dayton Audio APA150 150 watt amplifier.

It can be used as a Subwoofer amp or stereo speakers ....

I wouldn't if I were you. It's likely the output from the TV is controlled by some sort of digital vol control and it is not completely unknown for it to come on at a silly volume with potential speaker blowing consequences.

I have a panasonis viera and run the two audio out leads to a pre amp and then into active speakers., It also works straight from the telly to the speakers using the tv remote volume. Neither has caused any problems with volume level any more than it would would with a standard volume pot on an ordinary pre or integrated amp.
