Buying a Porsche but is a cheap one a non starter ?

I'm 6' 2 and broad, and felt very uncomfortable driving a 99 Boxster S. It was way too tight for me.

My friend the owner upgraded to a 2001 911 C4S and I found that to be far better in terms of space.

Don't know about newer models.

Apparently the driving position is uncomfortable for anyone with a large penis.

Porsche don't think they've ever lost a sale though. They know their demographic.

I have a 981S and I'm 6ft 3in and once in, the space is fine
However,it's somewhat 'tight' getting in and out if someone has parked a little close to you !

I have a Porsche Boxster 2002 3.2S a true a Porsche it saved them from going under in the day, I’ve had mine for 9 years.

Regards,

Martin

If you could read between the lines - and not too deeply - you might recognise the lack of sincerity and - largely- concern in my posts GnT.

I looked at getting a cheap Boxster a few years ago and came to the conclusion that as I was 6'4" a 986 was out due to lack of leg room. 987s were fine, but out of my price range. I think the other thing to bear in mind is the availability of a good indie specialist nearby. You'll need to check the Porsche forums for these!

Service history will be vital. If it’s well cared for & cherished, as a lot of them are, £5k may be ok. Equally, an incomplete history & something that’s been ragged is a no-no.
The IMS/RMS seals is something a lot of people talk/moan about but it may be an overstated issue. After all, people on car forums are there to complain about things going wrong. A forum full of people saying “ I’ve had xxxcar for years & nothing to report” is gonna be dull.
If it’s an early example with a plastic rear screen, check it’s not overly creased. It was suggested best way to open the roof was to open it half way & then do a “gentle karate chop” type motion on the screen to ensure it folded neatly. Also check the roof sits correctly over the side windows when it’s closed.
The air con cooling rads are low down ahead of the front wheels, so check the a/c runs well & the engine temp is not too high.
If you’re a sensible & a small dose of luck, it’s easily possible to get a great little car.

A pal of mine has an original Boxter. Very much a garage queen, weekends only car, when dry as it runs semi slicks and is lowered in KW suspension if I remember rightly...

Anyhoo... I cannot fit in the drivers side at all, but at 6ft4 and 22 stone, it’s never gonna happen. I can just, get into the passenger side, it’s still a crush, knees and shoulders, but I can get in. Ok, I’m a Cadbury’s misshape, but they are not spacious inside.

6ft and under, I think you’ll be fine. 6-6ft 2, you’re pushing it; wide shoulders and or legs/arse, you’ll struggle
