Brexit: give me a positive effect... XII

Looks like Arlene Foster is about to become a casualty of Brexit. The DUP are voting to remove her. Nigel Dodds ( Sinn Fein 1: DUP 0) tried to blame his party’s Brexit misfortune on remainers but it looks like Arlene will take the rap.

Ah yes, strongly Leave in an area that is quite obviously suffering as a result of Brexit, if only someone had warned them. Finally betrayed, some might say "duped" by the Charlatan. Over three quarters of MLAs and half the goon squad on board already, she's toast.

There's a jeans thread somewhere. I last wore a pair of jeans in 1979.

Must be trauma involved. Larger sizes are available you know. We could talk about it over a good bottle of red.

I'm with ET on this, Jeans are for the young and those who have retained their youthful physique if the "Jeremy Clarkson" chicken legs effect is to be avoided, which of course it should.

Northern Ireland was always the Brexit powder keg ready to blow. The anti-European political minority tried to leverage their position to continue persecuting minorities- for example their freedom to continue water boarding gays: Arlene Foster made the fatal mistake of agreeing to ban the practice by her community then hilariously cited ECHR legislation as a protection-

The DUP leader tweeted: "Any law coming forward must define therapy in a way which does not harm freedom of religion - a right protected by ECHR”.
Arlene’s tribe conducting ‘therapy’- can you just imagine?

Above all, I suspect what dun for her was her perceived collusion with a notorious liar who went ahead and placed N.Ireland behind a new border, separated from the rest of Britain.

So, a failing moronic far-right racist gutter tabloid that has spent £millions of its tax-exile owner’s money pushing Brexit xenophobia to its readers (you I assume) can only find a two point ‘lead’ that is still way, below a majority? Interesting that you felt the need to curl that one out onto my forum.

I had a look at the Express website, and found some obviously EU sceptic but perfectly reasonable articles about the EU institutions, some fairly measured UK current affairs, a monotonous obsession with the Royals in general and Kate Middleton in particular, and ridiculous amounts of irritating advertisements. No mention of immigrants, no racism, no xenophobia, unless of course you happen to consider eurosceptism itself to be xenophobic.

I checked the wiki entry, and apparently your far right/racist/UKIP supporting tax-exile pornographer sold the paper to the Mirror Group in 2018, and hired an editor who is a lifelong Labour supporting remainer who has pledged to clean the paper up.

It has apparently improved somewhat from the racist/fascist cess-pit it was a few years ago, and much of that was down to crowdfunded protest from #StopFundingHate, full story here: https://stopfundinghate.info/2019/0...-talks-about-the-impact-of-stop-funding-hate/

An organisation I fully support.

PS The Express is still a gutter tabloid, very far from a source I could respect, and I’m reluctant to host outlinks to it.

You had me going for a minute, I almost thought you had looked hard but you don't mention the late Princess Diana or house prices, so I can only assume it was a different paper you found.

There was something on Diana, but Kate seems to have stolen the show.

Are house prices an inherently far right thing?

Possibly not, but the Express is as famous for it's obsession with house prices. It has a tendency to spuriously link rising house prices with any of it's other hobby horses and has been called out on it. We are left to deduce that house prices are as central to it's reader's sense of wellbeing, as foreigners, single mothers and anti-royalists are to their anxieties.

It's still relentlessly postioned as a sign of the national fortunes, even when it's quite likely to be a damaging bubble.

It's certainly a damaging bubble for me. My house has become so absurdly valuable that I can't afford to buy my ex-wife out, and have to sell it.

"We understand via the FWD that 12% of the UK driver pool has repatriated, creating a significant shortfall of drivers."
No surprise. Same goes in the factories. To be fair though, this is one effect that the Leave voters DID want to happen. "They come over here and take our jobs, they are taking up places in the schools, I pick the kids up and the teaching staff are speaking half a dozen different languages to the kids, you can't get an appointment at the doctor's and they get all the best council housing". I heard it over and over again, all over the country, and at a number of different levels of society.

The future for deliveries must be automated trucks. I do know one of the Amazon papers talks about delivery by drone, but that's a little way off yet.
Some ex colleagues are building a full scale simulation, but the terrible situation in India is affecting a lot of projects.

I think widespread delivery by drone is about as likely as flying cars, and about as safe, TBH. Delivery by drone, to specific places such as lighthouses or other remote and difficult to reach locations might be a flier, but I simply can't imagine a day when the air over London or Manchester, say, will be abuzz with the sound of drones delivering Amazon stuff.

Where did I make mention of flying drones?
There are already drone trials taking place, wheeled variety.
