Brexit: give me a positive effect (2023 ‘Epic Fail’ box set edition)

"Rejoining the EU" as a policy statement would be all but a guarantee the party with that policy would not be forming the next government.

I hereby nail my colours to the mast and predict (ok, hope too!) that when the time is right, a Labour government will seek to take us into the EEA. which means the Single Market. The Norway model then: according to https://www.gov.uk/eu-eea "The European Economic Area (EEA): The EEA includes EU countries and also Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. It allows them to be part of the EU’s single market"

The existence of (other) countries as members of the EEA but not of the EU gives Labour the opportunity to argue that they are respecting the results of the referendum while seeking to boost the UK economy so they can invest in public services.

It will be a significant drag on the UK economy, any party winning the election might be guarded about plans but they will have to face facts sooner or later.

Any form of Brexit was always going to be an economic body blow but any party overtly stating that their policy is to “reverse” any part of it, despite the ambiguity of the exam question put to the public and the extreme way in which the government decided to implement it, would be crucified.

Despite the inevitable howls of betrayal from the shallow, the nostalgic, the jingoistic etc, joining the EEA is not rejoining the EU, and business small and large will welcome it warmly. The economy will get a significant boost and the new government might just be able to make a downpayment on some of its policy commitments.

Statista 1st May 2024, 57% of voters thought Brexit was a bad decision. 31% still support it. Nearly 2:1.

Good deflection away from whether you think Trump is a lunatic. Do you specialise is false equivalence?

My post was about the UK/EU constructing walls in Turkey, mainly to prevent Syrian migrants crossing and Libya preventing African migrants crossing.

You chose to deflect towards individuals.

Strangely a few years later 5 million Ukranian refugees were accepted into the UK/EU.

Liberally minded individuals would consider that to be both racist and islamophobic.

Though as it is the UK/EU and no individual can be accused of fascism it gets a 'free pass',
because 27 countries voted for it and the EU can do no wrong..

In case anyone was too busy with Brexit and missed it .

Facility for Refugees in Turkey

The full operational budget of the Facility €6 billion has been committed and contracted, with more than €5.3 billion disbursed.

In total, the EU has devoted around €700 million in support to Libya these last few years under various funding instruments, including the EU Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF), the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI), the humanitarian assistance (ECHO), the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) among ...
