  1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

I have a Daughter that lives with me and I can’t see her moving out any time soon. I might even forget how mercilessly evil women are and give that another go in the future.

OK then, so you need 2 bedrooms minimum, 3 if you want guests. That's a goer.

There are lots of nice houses in the Scottish borders for not much cash, and some of them not too far from Edinburgh or Glasgow if you're mostly working from home with the occasional trip to the office. Here are a few around Melrose and Moffat, which are both nice towns in great countryside:

My main requirements for a retirement residence are a decent sized listening room and some kind of workshops/outbuildings for tinkering. This often only comes with larger properties.

Had a brief look at a few and my initial impression was depressing: is that just the photos, the furniture or are they depressing ?

Yeah, on the east coast but still relatively undeveloped here - living in the 'real' rural Ireland would do my head in....you should have seen the prices here 2009-2011 - complete carnage!

Yes, a difficult brief. Nobody is going to attach a 6m x 6m garage to a 2 bed bungalow, nobody is going to have a big lounge in a small house when you could steal 3m x 2m and call it a bedroom and kerching up goes the value.

...all I'm looking for is about 150-180sq.m of workshop space; I'll shove a bunk-bed & a kettle in the far corner...
