Quick one - does the line in route back out through the line out, or is it simply going through the adc to the optical out?

If it does go back out of the line out, is it simple pass through, or does it go through any circuitry?

You can enable direct monitoring by a switch IIRC. However, I don't think it is an analog pass-through, it still goes through ADC and DAC but I think it bypasses the computer processing to reduce latency.

My understanding of the line in (the 2 RCAs) is that the UCA202 processes the analogue signal via its ADC then shoves the digital signal into the PC via USB or Toslink.

But maybe I've misunderstood your question...

Thanks. I was basically wondering if it can in effect be used as an input expander. So have usb from pc, and analog in from something else. If it goes adc then dac then that doesn't sound ideal.

Nah, don't think it does that. I'm pretty sure the RCA inputs are only for conversion by the UCA202's ADC, thence into your PC.
