BBC Maida Vale closing down

BBC Radio Scotland had a huge auction for its gear in the last year or so. There were thousands of lots and folk could bid online, although i don't think it was 'live' in the sense that e-bay is.

Hundreds of items from pairs of BBC monitor speakers ( such as LS3/5 etc ) to headphones , microphones, eletrical studio type equipment that i would have a clue what they did.

From what I have seen, there are guys in the know that will be in there quick buying "job lots". Sometimes, they may be just after the mixing desk, etc. and will get rid of the other stuff on eBay.

Wow imagine picking up a EMT 950 broadcast Turntable Or even A Gates with the Gray arm like they used on Radio One and Two for many years
Or a Revox Cd player Mind boggles

Quick question those Black monitors speakers are quite interesting i see in the studios the ones where the tweeter is nearly on top of the woofer. I notice there pretty standard through BBC radio studiosat the moment, I see also they do not Bi wire

If you look at radio two home page daytime cam the webcam behind one of these monitors you can see the type of speaker cable banana plugs and that the speakers are rear ported My JPW gold monitors that are in use at the moment have no ports. "Sound huge for what they are" . Well I think so .. :)

Wonder if they charge when the sale them 5,500.00 EUR = 4,351.53 GBP Like these guys for an EMT 950. below notice the state of it really weatherd like an old steam engine !!!

It might be worth book marking the link that i posted back then and checking in every once in a while.

Cheers.

I wish the powers that be on here or man in charge would consider putting in a thanks button. Would have saved this reply but much appreciated

you can see the thanks button in use @ www.avforums.com

The answer to that question the person asked for about gear in your link. They use i was quite a nerd at all that stuff. many years ago Anyone else buy the Emperor rosko DJ book? You still see it in second hand book shops. It has a fantastic guide to all the BBC gear in it. There is another Turntable as good quality as the Gates and the EMT in use in many Radio stations in the vinyl hay day called a russco. They come in some pretty strange colours to. If you find this book it tells you about shure catridges and the plessy "Now theres a name from the past" Spotmaster jingle machines. Johnny Walker said once on a program the jingles are now on mini discs. If this interests you at all and want radio statio studio pictures i collected many over the years have them all on CD . If you want any or to see some pm me your email address.

Turntables they use on national radio used from 1967, American, gates turntable With the heavy gray (That is the maker) Tone arm till the 1980's

Then they could not get the parts. went to German EMT 950 Turntables. Were short lived because of CD. But still could be seen in Radio two studios up to a couple of years ago.

Revox Cd players they look like fax machines LOL top loading . were used in the radio two studios. Those studios seem to change everytime i see them now.

the emt's all went for between 500-900, not a penny more, so someone is laughing all the way to the bank.
