Auralic Vega and Benchmark DAC2 reviews in Stereophile

The Vega was (is?) definitely in my short list. A friend of mine bought it a few months ago, and he thinks only the MSB Analog is superior, to his ears. And he has listened to many DACs.

The Vega is cut from broadly similar cloth to the MSB Analog: quite unlike the dCS.

It's horses for courses: customers who love MSB tend not to like dCS, and vice versa. But the Vega's a sweetie: everyone likes it, even thought it's the tiniest bit rose-tinted.

The Metrum Octave is a Marmite converter: it suits some systems well, but can be underwhelming in others. If you don't like the NOS sound, you definitely won't like it. However, it scored hits for us in systems where customers are moving from vinyl and have a problem with what they perceive to be 'overlit' treble in converters like the Benchmark DAC1. The Hex is a different animal: it's rather like Chevron's Paradox DAC: ie, NOS done right.
