Now the merge is off : -

Dear eClub Member

Some of you may have read reports in the press that the planned merger between Audio T and Sevenoaks Sound and Vision has been called off. I can confirm that this is correct and that from 1st June 2012 all stores will revert to Audio T branding, bringing the Audio T store count back to 20. All stores have been added onto the Audio T website where you can again find all their contact details.
The decision to call off the merger was made jointly between the two companies and, moving forward, both Audio T and Sevenoaks will work together to ensure continuity of service for any customers that have purchased goods from either outlet. It turned out that we were more different than we had imagined and that integrating the two cultures would prove difficult even in the long run. We have been gratified by the number of positive comments from our staff, suppliers and you, our customers, to the change back to Audio T.
Our main aim now is to provide you with an enhanced range of the two-channel products that Audio T has been known for over the last 46 years. The exciting new market of streaming audio has opened up new possibilities for all our music systems and we are looking forward to showing you what this technology can do for you – more control over your system, more ability to extend it around the house and more platforms to listen to your music on. At the same time we are not forgetting those that want high quality home cinema and the TV's and projectors to go with it and will be continuing to sell the best in class in this market too.

Work is underway to move the Manchester store to new, larger premises next door to our existing outlet, which will allow us to offer an even better service to our customers. Currently our branches in Camberley and Warrington are having end of lease sales and details of the bargains available can be found here. We are hopeful that we will not have to close any more stores, however, this will depend on coming to sensible terms with our landlords to reflect the new economic realities when leases are due for renewal.

We thank you for your understanding in these difficult times and can assure you that Audio T remains enthusiastically committed to bringing you the brands and the service you have come to expect from us. We will be writing to you soon with details of the many new products we will be bringing into the stores in the coming months and look forward to welcoming you back to Audio T!

Regards,

Agree. I had my first proper "dem" in Audio T in Enfield. Naim vs Cyrus vs Meridian I seem to remember. The output of the phono stage I was using overloaded the input stage of the Naim. Ok, it was set for MC and I had a high output DV 10x; so it goes...

What's the Lancaster situation? i have always enjoyed going there, now I am in a Hi-fi desert.

Good luck with the new format.

I've bought most of my stereo from AudioT (or Reading HiFi & Cassette as it used to be) & the remainder from Sevenoaks such as a Pana plasma last year. I certainly do have a preference between the two but wish both companies & their employees much luck.

Shame about the Epsom & Camberley branches though. Many people in the town where I live blame lack of free parking for poor sales. This may indeed contribute but shop rents are far too high for many businesses to remain viable.

I started my hi fi journey in Audio T in West End Lane, NW6, in the early 80s. Brilliant shop, brilliant people. I am told the stores are very different now, but they are an important part of the hifi scene. Times are hard.....

Times are certainly hard. They are not closing down shops for the fun of it. Even the long established Audio Counsel has left a seemingly prime location in Cheadle and opened in Saddleworth of all places.

Sorry to see Audio-T in Camberley is going. I've bought from there - good service. Perhaps the ipod generation don't happen or want to know that there is higher fidelity out there.

My perception is that the "middle" has largely gone. You can spend £200 or £300 and get a one box system that actually sounds pretty good, so there is less need for affordable separates, and such need as there is is well filled by internet sellers and richer.

So the remaining "proper" hifi players are now aiming more at the "don't ask the price" market.

When I was growing up there were 2 local hifi shops in Crouch End, which wasn't even a fashionable place to live at that time. I bought a pair of Tannoy M15s in one of them. Now there are none.

Just my thoughts.

Yes, he's sort of semi-retired. Closer to home, lower rates etc. I heard he's only open 3 days a week?

Glad Audio-T have got out of the Sevenoaks thing. I got my first system from Audio-T back in the late 80's. I heard from an employee that the stores that we're rebranded as Sevenoaks actually saw a decline in their 2 channel business since the rebranding. I can only assume that this is because people see Sevenoaks as more of a television and AV retailer, rather than a hifi specialist.

Epsom was my local, bought some Naim from them a while back. You'll be pleased to know Mike Burn is now the manager at Infidelity in Kingston just down the road, top bloke who knows his stuff and gives sage advice.

Good service at Oxford Audio T also. On the phone to them friday regarding some Chord cable which Paul steered me away from as i'm looking for something neutral. Great guys as always.
Just a mention on Sevenoaks, never had problems with them, bought Epos from them some years ago at the Oxford branch, good chaps all round.

I've been a customer of Audio T in Cheltenham since the early 1980's, they were called Absolute Sound & Video back then. Bought a Dual record deck and Nad amp from there originally, moved onto LP12 etc later. Always got good service there.

Brilliant! I'll pay them a visit later this month. I'm off to What HiFi in Teddington by train so will drop down to Hampton Wick in the morning & a beer/lunch in The Swan?

I remember Tony R from the then Audio Excellence.

I came with his then wife to set up our Linn/Nytech/Arc system in the early 80s.

Looks like Tony is still around.

Fond memories.
