Arcam DV139 DVD/SACD Player

I have recently purchased one of these for DVD/CD playback to replace a broken CYRUS DVD 7+ and PSXR the Arcam is far better than the Cyrus unit but is quite old so I was wondering if it can be improved in any way to further enhance its current capabilities.

Well we'll well...I owned one and it was a love and hate relationship.

It marked the beginning of the demise (quality wise) of Arcam. They screwed up their high end entrance into AV with this player and the AVR 600.

Both had tons of driver and HDMI handshake issues. Many never got resolved and Arcam cusomer service left lot to be desired. They lost many customers.

Anyways, if your unit works well then it is a great player. The audio side for cd playback is excellent. Comparably to 500 pound stand-alone players. The Dac is good, give it a chance. I loved how it presented music.

I sold mine and lost dearly.

It works fine and I have purchased a spare laser assembly it sounds good and the picture quality is good too.

Why would you spend more money on a DAC?

If you have SACDs it should sound excellent. I don't think you could play them through an external DAC though.

Not sure if the dac can be improved upon or is it worth modding?
