On first listen, a really rather good album. Cooder-free, and the better for it in my opinion, compared to In the heart of the moon, even though I quite liked that one, too. But this one's rawer, less polished, speaking more directly from heart and guts.
What with the also excellent Cash American Recodings, maybe we should start a thread "Legacy recordings: last albums from artists who knew they were going to die", or would that be too morbid?
