I've borrowed an Oppo 105 to check out this weekend, but am having problems getting it to access this laptop (Windows 7) and it's attached storage.
It's generally seeing the music files (well, some of them), but not allowing me to play them.
I've got file sharing switched on obv, and media streaming enabled. The Oppo is showing as part of my network, and I can access and play files from another computer on the network.

Anyone have any bright ideas?

Yours hopefully.....

I have the 103 and my experience is that even when I can access and play the files it stutters a lot. I think its an issue with Samba. I gave up and used DLNA server, I use Twonky but a lot of people seem to swear by JRiver.

Ah, that doesn't bode well.
After faffing around for hours, I think I'm going to sack if off.
Plus, it doesn't sound as good as my Meridian 507.
It's a shame, as if it had worked as I wanted, it would have been a good solution for me.

I never used my 103 much for streaming, I had a Squeezebox Touch and now a UnitiQute and they both made streaming much less hassle.

Its Windoze 'security'. I managed to get remote access a year or two ago but had to have the files in a shared area. I probably could have 'broken' into Windows but the faff....... I use a Mac mini as my music server so I push my music from Windoze onto an external portable USB NTFS formatted drive on the Mac and share from there.

Cheers,

Just a point - the Oppo takes at least 200 hours to sound right. Its a known issue with the dacs regardless of people's comments on running in usually on this site!

You really need to check out the avs forum where the absolute specialists that Oppo have been using for beta reside. Spend some time looking through the thread on this player.

You need to ensure the firmware is absolutely current - any new public beta have to be installed by hard ware not via wireless

The Oppo is a stunningly good player - you clearly have something wrong if your meridian is better (set up for multi channel and not down mixing etc etc - all in the setup area - you need a screen to sort this aspect out and there are dozens of setting that could be causing you issue) try getting the wireless to work in order to check sq - if you have it set wrong you will know.

Use the pure sound button to turn off all the video and unnecessary circuits for best sound

Use either the balanced or phono stereo outputs to get at least some idea of the quality - plus a sacd if you have one

Remember - this unit will sound best via a nas or dnla but the USB and HDMI connectors are all of differing purpose and quality - only one for example is asynchronous etc and you really need to use the right input to get full hd capability if driving with a computer.

Hi teachersrus2,

I have one and have never entirely been happy with it's sound quality as a Dac.

It's set up as down sample so I'm interested in your comments about multichannel possibly sounding better.

No problem streaming mine from a network connected Synology Nas BTW.
