Why didn't you ask for some payment - even if it's a peppercorn amount e.g. £20? If it's free, then it has no worth Photo credits don't pay bills, buy you hi-fi or cameras.
I was emailed 48 hours ago asking if a high end Italian sportscar magazine in the USA could use one of my photos from the Monaco Historic GP last year. I said that the editor or photo editor from the magazine is most welcome to contact me to arrange a suitable payment for a one off print use. If they don't pay, they don't get to use my photos.

It wasn't for a mag, it was for a one off email flyer. From experience these images only fetch a few quid, and I'd rather give an old image away. I'll be going to at least one meeting that they attend this year, and for the sake of ten or twenty quid, I'll be chatting with them in the pit or paddock.
I took the photos for my own enjoyment, not to make money.
If a professional suffers because of my actions, he's not much of a businessman. He should've been at the top of their list of image suppliers already.
My vote is in the hat for a free society.
