Amazon and Undisclosed Pre Order Payments Changes

poco a poco

I'm Jim
It seems that Amazon may have recently changed their policy with regards to pre order payments and they have not and still are not informing customers nor have they changed their terms and conditions on their website. It seems most of their sales team don't know about it either! This is probably illegal under UK, EU law.

Previous policy was only to charge you when your order was dispatched. It seems now if you pre order and your items are not ready to be shipped after 5 days you will then be charged for the full amount. If you have a pre order price guarantee you will still get this, but via a later refund if it applies. You still have the right to cancel your order prior to delivery and again you will have your payment refunded if you do this.

More information here on this Steve Hoffman thread from UK posters who have had this happen:

And here re Tone Poets where I spotted it:

It seems general across Europe, but perhaps it has not been implemented in the USA.

At present I have about £200 of record pre orders for June or July delivery dates that I ordered on 20th May, so potentially I should have been charged by yesterday. Checking my credit card account today does not show a full charge, only the nominal £1 marker fee Amazon apply on 20th May, but this could be because of the bank holiday weekend?

So worth keeping a check on your account if you have long term pre orders and don't want to be unpleasantly surprised by an earlier than expected deduction from your account.
