Algiers - The Underside Of Power
I've stumbled across this band recently.
Algiers are fronted by a black guy who's vocal style travels between Stax/Motown, Gospel/Spirtitual to a possessed-by-demons incoherent scream, openly channeling Black Panther texts. But the backing band are three indie white boys towards the more electronic/experimental end of the street. Huh ?
It doesn't sound like it should work, but it most definitely does.
For me, at least, it is good to see an overtly political band at this point in time.
Most exciting music I've heard for some time.
