Adware

naimplayer

Aspiring to be a halfwit.
Please recommend an adware blocker site which is safe and reliable.
I am inundated with ads on the laptop.

You have been infected my friend. Depends what OS you are running, I'll guess PC. Malware BYtes should be your first port of call.

IN the mean time for extra safety don't use online banking and the likes until you are clear.

AdBlock it's free and blocks most things but as Gary says you probably have a malware virus now.
Keep off them dodgy porn sites:D

Thank you for the sage advice. And to Muzzer its all helpful. I took the Malwarebytes offer and removed more than 1500 suspicious objects. :)

Ahh well back to the dodgy porn sites it is then. I shall now enjoy myself as only a Batchelor knows how. :D:D

AdBlock is (more or less) dead and was superseded by AdBlock Plus.

However, AdBlock plus ran into some controversy as it has an option to allow through some ads from people like Google and Microsoft who have paid for the privilege of being whitelisted. They argue that since these ads are minimal and non-intrusive they are not the ones you should be blocking and we cannot reasonably expect everything to be free.

The other option is uBlock Origin which is very comparable to ABP and arguably better but without the Took Money From The Man features. uBlock Origin has some (optional) advanced features for the power user.

Just to confuse matters further there are two versions of uBlock, namely uBlock and uBlock Origin although to spare you the gory details of the open source project drama, uBlock Origin is the one you want.

My recommendation is uBlock Origin and manually whitelist those sites you wish to support and have a use reasonable, non-intrusive advertising (PFM for example).

Note these are all browser plugins and work the same on Windows and Linux and even other niche platforms :)

Thank you very much for the advice and explanation. Most goes over my head but I have the gist I believe. I am going to give your recommendation a try now & see how I get on.

A very Happy New Year to all us fishies and prosperity into the future.
