Add remote volume control to NAC-32.5??

Hardwire the pot in the pre and have a 2 core fly lead from the pre go to an external box with IR LED, PSU and control PCB?

Only the PSU should be an external one (I opted for el-cheapo wall-wart PSU), all others can be easily inserted into any amp.

twas just a suggestion to save space inside. It would also allow optimal setting of the IR.
Used to have a pre sitting low behind a coffe table once. Had to stand up for the remote to work.

I am actually in two minds about remote, i like it but find myself fiddling with volume often.

Its been a long time but I am finally about to get round round to making a full Neil Jadman mini motherboard + 321 boards. I had a few questions and hoped someone could help.

I am using the 32.5 box and this pot 50k:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....60545&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2613wt_1154

and one of 2 remotes:

A: http://electronics.dantimax.dk/Kits/Control_boards/index.html
B: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....466365&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2029wt_905

Q1:
I was wondering if anyone could help with choosing a remote board? - Im a bit of a novice with this so Im not sure a 'pre-amp' remote setup would work ok if I just used the remote board (option B) alone? Board B is much cheaper so potentially better. I have sent a message to him but If anyone else could shed some light that would be great.

Q2:
Where is an internal power rail I could power the remote from?
Board A: (AC or DC supply in the 6-12 or 7.5-15V)
Board B: (AC 6-9V)

Q3:
I am currently using a Hicap, will this be necessary with the NJ motherboard and built in teddy regs?

Hi Pound0sound
1. Use only the Dantimax board - it's small, easy to set up and WORKS.
2. Use an external wallwart type of PSU, anything you can find between 9-12V DC or AC, and add a small connector to the back panel that will accommodate this - this will keep the digital junk away from the 32.5 analog circuits.
Cheers,

I have made a dantimax kit and I agree with yairf. the results are excellent.

previous to the dantimax kit I used a creek passive as a remote control preamp with the naim 32.5 acting as as the active part. It works fine and when you replace the 32.5 with a better preamp you can sell the 32.5 undamaged.

Thanks for the input, i guess the dantimax has the best reputation here. Ill get cracking with it and let you know how it turns out. Ideally, I would like to take the power from an internal rail as I will also have a hi-cap coming into it and I don't want too many boxes/plugs etc (its chaos with preamps, dacs, power supplies - running out of plug sockets!).

Does anyone know a good rail I can power the remote from in the Neiljaman Motherboard?

Dear group,

I don't mean to turn this into an advertising thread, (I know this is an old thread) but if you haven't found what you're looking for in a remote, please see my website for Naim preamp upgrades:

www.ryansoundlab.com

I offer a real, internal, remote volume control that fits completely inside the case of 32, 32.5 and 72 as part of an upgrade that includes replacing the 729 boards in a 72 (the 324 buffer boards in the 32 series). Upgraded output boards and phono boards are also available. There is a pfm thread here that discusses the sound improvement for the whole series of upgrade boards I have:

I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have on this.

Best regards,

Kit Ryan
