2024 local elections

Time for Sunak (the unelected, petulant billionaire) to resign, new Tory leader and once in place, go to the country for a new mandate...

...which they won't get cos Britain wants a Labour government.
Well at least, a socialist one:rolleyes:

Oh my goodness Labour are a disaster in Birmingham , they are going to dim the streetlights to save pennies ( 900 k ) they are closing libraries and the arts left right and centre .reducing bin collections and just a disaster !!!!

They have lost the support of the majority Islamic vote as well
Birmingham is run by Gove appointed Commissioners...

If Street’s lost the WM, that’s a huge shock, and may well drive a move against Sunak.

Even given the national polls and the national mood more generally, it’s a really big upset.

What a shame that would be …

More seriously, yet another leader would just be more damaging for the Tories and I’m of two minds how damaged I want them to be.

On the one hand, an utter decimation and a decade or more in the wilderness so to speak may let the party put itself back together in more of a One Nation mold and rid itself of the Braverman types and their 1980’s skinhead derived “ideas”.

But I worry about the consequences of a two term government with an opposition so weak that the government can’t be held to account. Particularly as there has to be a chance some of the Tory rags go under once their clients vacate the government benches. Vile as they are, maybe a dissenting voice is a healthy thing overall ?

No, I'm not exactly looking forward to Starmer Labour have zero opposition either.

Problem is there isn't really any opposition now. Just two centre-right parties trading insults at the dispatch box.

I just think no government is going to be a good government for very long without a decent opposition. To be honest at the moment I feel that we’d all be better off if the female politicians who do the podcast with Beth Rigby were just put in charge for 2 years with the understanding we’d have an election after that.

I can’t agree that the current Tories are “centre” right. Most of the Cabinet would have been a good fit around the table with Mussolini…

Absolutely unbelievable ....labour have been a disaster to birmingham causing bankruptsy , what a nightmare to get them in as a mayor ...words fail me
Others have already made the point, but just to underline it - avail yourself of the facts. The reason councils are going bankrupt is because they are being deliberately starved of central funding and it's happening to Tory run councils too. But when it happens to Labour councils, the government shouts about how badly run Labour councils are and people who know no better parrot the propaganda.

Looking at the numbers it would seem Reform did a great job in the WM lol
Except that any vote for reform is not necessarily a good thing. Equally important statistically the Greens got almost the same vote as reform. More importantly the independent Akhmed Yakoob got twice as many with almost 20%.

Thank you for that. It seems some people need an easy to understand diagram tbh.

A small target carrying a Ming vase totters towards power to do what? Why? With nothing, for no one.
Meanwhile a millionaire technocrat demonstrates his skill at loading a dishwasher, grinning at the camera in Adidas Sambas.
Akshata ponders on the Maldives in December, it would be warm and she never did like Turkey.

Classic Tory policy - cut the funds and challenge Labour to make ther cuts on the ground. The Labour right falls into the trap every time and in every council.

I'd suspect they only take votes off the Tories, the system isn't set up to allow Reform to actually get anywhere so IMO the more idiots vote for them the better.

I saw this and I was cringing at the thought of Sunak speaking.
He was orgasmic in this victory, without acknowledging the carnage on his watch.

Why didn't any journalists, put him to the sword?

Utter contempt.

I wonder when the West Midlands Mayoral results will be declared.

If Street wins, Sunak will be even worse.

Laura was deliriously happy - probably affected her journalist integrity. I thought the pictures told the story - the very definition of cringe. Mainstream journos can't go too far. If they do, they won't get access. PFM is far better at 'swording' than the MSM. Street is also off - a man who supported Liz Truss.
