2024 local elections

Full recount for West Mids mayor, would be a shame to see the back of another Tory tosser.
to be fair matt , he is absolutely brilliant imho . made a bit of a mistake trying to combine the police and crime commissioner role with the mayor but that got sorted

Parker ahead in Birmingham vote

We've had the results from the Birmingham count in the West Midlands mayoral election - it's another clear win for Richard Parker, but he's down on 2021.
He received 80,251 votes to Andy Street's 66,296.
And the independent, Akhmed Yakoob, picked up 42,923 votes.

"The results are in after the recount in Coventry and now Andy Street is just 11,455 votes ahead of Labour with one authority left to declare in the West Midlands mayor result.

In Coventry, Richard Parker took 32,704 votes, while Street got 23,327 – a big increase for Labour in what was last time a close call between the two parties.

But Labour still need to make up just over 11,000 votes in Sandwell, where the independent candidate, pro-Palestine lawyer Akhmed Yakoob, could have taken some of their vote share."

The stance on Gaza may well cost labour dear.

Thanks for the update.

I may sound like a weird wonk saying it, but it’s a fascinating thing to see playing out.

Absolutely unbelievable ....labour have been a disaster to birmingham causing bankruptsy , what a nightmare to get them in as a mayor ...words fail me

Time for Sunak (the unelected, petulant billionaire) to resign, new Tory leader and once in place, go to the country for a new mandate...

...which they won't get cos Britain wants a Labour government.
