2012 - Taking stock - What's your record of the year?

One I keep coming back to is Efterklang - Piramida.

Others that have got a fair bit of play are:

Marconi Union - Different Colours
Dr John - Locked Down
Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra - Towards Other Worlds
Four Tet - Pink
Brioski - Hype Nothing
Andy Weatherall's Masterpiece mix
Dexys - One Day I'm Going To Soar
Eno - Lux
Burnt Friedman - Zokuhen

On the new not new front, Can's Lost Tapes boxset wins hands down.

Yep it's been a funny year - nothing has totally knocked my socks off. However, the pick for me have been -

Lower Dens - Nootropics
Allo Darlin' - Europe
dEUS - Following Sea
Saint Etienne - Words And Music
La Sera - Sees The Light
Stars - The North (prob my fave gig of the year too)

As the OP said, so many follow-up albums haven't measured up - Best Coast, XX, A Place To Bury Strangers, Monolake etc..

Looking at this compilation of lists at metacritic
http://www.metacritic.com/feature/top-ten-lists-best-albums-of-2012

it strikes me that Anais Mitchell's "Young Man in America" might be the year' best lost record - it would be in my top 10 but doesn't appear at all here thus far - and there's plenty of less worthy stuff that does.

Worth looking at the Uncut list for a laugh - were more than half of the best 10 records this year really made by pensioners? Dear me!!!

You're all wrong. It's this:

Not something I'd usually go for but Frank Ocean's Orange was surprising. Otherwise Dirty Projectors, Alt J and still The Harrow & the Harvest (was that really 2011!). The rest were as OP states, not quite as good as they should have been......so old jazz.

I've been a bit lacking with new albums this year, not sure if it is my enthusiasm or a lack a great albums. Two of my favourites are:

Sleep Games by Pye Corner Audio
Words & Music by Saint Etienne

As for reissues:

Oram Tapes volume one
Anything released by Death Waltz records this year

EDIT:: I forgot about the new Jessica Bailiff LP

It's been a good year for electronic sounds and for drone too I think. A non-exhaustive list of highlights heard in between the nappy changing have been:

Raime / Quarter Turns Over a Living Line
KTL (Mark Fell & Stephen O'Malley) / V
Mark Fell / Sentielle Objectif Actualite
Old Apparatus / All of the 12" EPs they released this year
Loscil / Sketches From New Brighton
Emptyset / Collapse
Shed / The Killer
Perc / Wicker & Steel
Forward Strategy Group / Labour Division

The top spot is a toss up between
Mark Van Hoen / The Revenant Diary
and
Carter - Tutti - Void / Transverse

Addendum. I've finally found the time to listen to the new SWANS album. The Seer is a total monster of a record. Hard to compare to things like Transverse or The Revenant Diary but every bit as good.

Love Dead Can Dance latest album. Good recording. Just wish I'd got tickets to see them in concert.
