Avondale - Excellent Service

As Les rarely posts here anymore thought I would cast some love in his direction.

I have been using Avondale for decades. He continues to be an excellent source of information and product. Just ordered a phono box and PSU from him which arrived promptly, despite the fact he is in the process of relocating.

Before specialising in Naim he sprinkled the Avondale 'fairy dust' over a few products. I had a modified MF Preamp 2 (not the dreadful pre 1...) with a lovely external PSU and still use an Avondaled Quad 33 as my preamp. He has just serviced it for me, including a nice new Avondale badge on the PSU - a gentleman and a scholar.

I had an Arcam CD player he'd tweaked - it was rather good.

I still have NAP250s fitted with Avondale NCC200 boards and they are just incredible. I will have to spend a lot of money to justify moving on. Realistically NAP 500s.

Les is rather like how John Bamford described the Avondale modified MF The preamp:. Something, like one of the best kept secrets in Audio.

An artist, a visionary and a gentleman. He may develop an idea over a very long time, but when it's ready you get The genesis turntable, the magnetic tonearm, Revelation speakers, Grad 1 preamp, voyager amps etc etc.
His power supplies blow the opposition away, as do his prices.

I've been using Avondale for almost 20 years and during that time have experienced some astonishingly good kit (at amazingly good value), but also some equally astonishingly long waits. I know that not everyone has the patience to wait while Les works his magic, but it always proves to be worthwhile in the end. My latest upgrade was Voyagers from original spec to latest including NCC300s. This took a little over a year (with occasional calls with Les) but the resulting amps are amazing, easily outclassing a couple of other much more expensive amps. The wait is forgotten but the amps will be here for a long while yet!
