On holiday in Somerset many years ago, we encountered what was, though we didn't realise it at the time, a cohort of hippies heading Glastonbury way. This was in the Festival's early days, when it was still either free or very cheap to attend. They just milled about in the road, either drunk on cheap cider or stoned. My mate Andy, who was driving and was from round the area, sounded the horn, revved the engine, and shouted obscenities until the crowd gradually parted. He said 'I often have to do that when there's a bunch of sheep blocking the road'. If it had been football fans rather than hippies, we might have used different tactics.
