Of the pianists I've heard, I'd vote Brendel and Oscar Peterson, and there are many honourable mentions. Ogden and Ashkenazy have a particularly positive memory for me because I heard them both live in the year after they shared the Tchaikovsky prize, at the Lancaster Music Festival. Leif Ove...

I'm a fan of Tjader's work with Brubeck and particularly after he started the vibraphone with Shearing. I'm less familiar with his later music, but thanks for the reminder.

It's a big subject, and there's lots of suggestions already. I'd add Oscar Peterson's Solo album.
