    Why Pink Fish?

i always thought that "pink fish" refers to salmon, and salmon swim upstream, and pink fishies don't care if they go against the current flow of things. i guess i romanticized it a bit.

    Experience with Sonus Faber Concertino?

Still have mine and will never sell them. They’re not my main speakers but do enjoy them when in rotation. Worked best for me with tweeters on the outside (mirror-imaged) with no toe-in. Tried them with all sorts of amps and best for me was a pair of PP 6V6 mono’s, a wood-case Sugden A21, and an...

Putting together a small system...starting with a Rega io

Rega io and the LS50’s are a great combination, even if not so much on paper. I’ve had both items for a while now and have been subbing them in and out in my revolving door of (a) system/s. Even Steve Guttenberg (the reviewer, not the actor) seem to agree about the combo when he reviewed the io.

    Rega Clamshell amplifiers

I had a clamshell Mira around the same time I also had a full Naim system. I remember it as having a recessed, smooth, and PRAT-ty midrange with a depressed treble range and bouncy bass that does not go very deep. I liked it, until one channel blew and I had it repaired by the US rep, who did a...

    Collection of vintage DACs increases…

Sorry, time has clouded my memory. It’s 1541A, not the crown version. Sounds great, nonetheless.

    Collection of vintage DACs increases…

Card-carrying vintage DAC user here, too. Theta DS Pro Basic (AD1860) Monarchy M22 (PCM1863) Musical Fidelity Digilog (1541 crown) Micromega Duo BS (1545) Somewhat new, but with old tech: Lite DAC-AH (8x 1543) Border Patrol DAC SE (again with 1543) I do have a newer Bryston BDA-1 and a Schiit...

    Rega IO vs. Brio 2017

I can only offer first-hand account as I’ve had the LS50 (non-Meta) and the Rega io for many months now and can say that they are an excellent match, no lack for drive and db (my listening tops out at around 92dB peak), the tone from the combo is very pleasing to listen to.

    Drawn to a sugden

My wooden-sleeved A21 and A51 are two of the best amps I’ve ever owned, no matter if it’s valve or SS. The A51 was rescued off eBay for a paltry sum some ten years ago with no takers. Best deal ever. Saw off my Pass Aleph 3, Bedini 25/25, and Naim 180 (not hard) no contest.

How Many Amps Do You Own

Too many, but having them around quell any other desire for more acquisition, if that makes sense. Integrated: Nait 1 Rega Io Mission Cyrus 1 Sugden A21 Audio Innovations Alto NAD 3020 Linn Majik-i Fisher X100 Trio/Kenwood KA-4002 Pioneer SA-9100 big Sansui Amps: Quicksilver Mini Mites custom...

It’s about time for another LS3/5a ( plus others ) Shootout.

I own a pair of these, bought them out of curiosity, to compare to my Spendor LS3/5A’s. They definitely sound like LS3/5A’s, no matter how much it’s protested in other forums. They have better bottom and top end (cleaner) than my Spendors. Work great with Quicksilver Mini Mites (in 6L6’s...

Front grilles for Rega Kyte (new style) & Kef LS50

Hmmm may I ask where you sourced those?

Front grilles for Rega Kyte (new style) & Kef LS50

This is exactly what I did with my LS50’s for some protection and also to make them a bit inconspicuous in the living room (pic, zoom in pls) Worked out well, and if you take the “grilles” off, the velcro dots are not too obvious. (Excuse the speaker/system mish-mash, having a bit of fun during...

    Zen Bluetooth DAC

Had one for a year now. No drop-out’s for me. Built-in DAC would be adequate for podcasts and such, but I found using the dig out to an external DAC makes the sound a lot better.

    Pass Aleph 3

I think you’re right about where I was with the Aleph 3. I struggled with selling it as I really loved its aesthetics (although not crazy about the power switch on the back), and the fact that it sounded great with some speakers. I can imagine it driving your JR149 well. I liked it with small...
